Βιογραφικό
Ο Άκης Τσελέντης γεννήθηκε στο Φισκάρδο και έζησε τα νεανικά του χρόνια στην Κεφαλονιά. Σπούδασε Φυσική στο ΕΚΠΑ, Ηλεκτρονικά στο Πολυτεχνείο της Ζυρίχης και Γεωφυσική στο Πανεπιστήμιο Leeds της Αγγλίας. Είναι διδάκτορας Σεισμολογίας Γεωφυσικής του Imperial College του Παν/μιου του Λονδίνου και έκανε μεταδιδακτορικές σπουδές στο Ινστιτούτο Σεισμών του Πανεπιστημίου του Τόκυο με το οποίο είχε μακροχρόνια συνεργασία. Ίδρυσε το Σεισμολογικό Κέντρο του Παν/μιου Πατρών όπου και διετέλεσε Καθηγητής Σεισμολογίας Γεωφυσικής. Αυτή την περίοδο είναι Διευθυντής του Γεωδυναμικού Ινστιτούτου του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών, Διευθυντής του Εθνικού Κέντρου Τσουνάμι και Καθηγητής Σεισμολογίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών.
Έχει δημοσιεύσει περισσότερες από 300 επιστημονικές εργασίες σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά, 7 βιβλία, ενώ κατέχει 5 διπλώματα ευρεσιτεχνίας. Είναι μέλος πολλών διεθνών επιστημονικών επιτροπών και συλλόγων και επισκέπτης Καθηγητής σε πολλά Πανεπιστήμια του εξωτερικού με μεγάλη εμπειρία στην διαχείριση Ευρωπαϊκών ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων στα οποία υπήρξε επιστημονικός υπεύθυνος.
Σε μια προσπάθεια ουσιαστικής συμβολής στην αναβάθμιση της χώρας σε θέματα πολιτικής προστασίας και διαχείρισης καταστροφών, ο Άκης Τσελέντης θα διεκδικήσει μια θέση στην Ευρωβουλή τον Μαιο του 2019 με το ψηφοδέλτιο της Νέας Δημοκρατίας, δίνοντας πάντα έμφαση, στις ευπαθείς ομάδες του πληθυσμού και στις δημόσιες υποδομές, όπως τα σχολεία. Θέλοντας επίσης να βοηθήσει στην αναβάθμιση των Ελληνικών πανεπιστημίων και την ανάδειξή τους σε ευρωπαϊκό και διεθνές επίπεδο, ως επιστήμονας και ακαδημαϊκός δάσκαλος, θα προσπαθήσει με όλες του τις δυνάμεις, να δημιουργηθεί στην χώρα μας ένα ελκυστικό και ανταγωνιστικό ερευνητικό και ακαδημαϊκό περιβάλλον που θα κινητροδοτήσει την επιστροφή των Ελλήνων επιστημόνων που άφησαν τη χώρα μας τα τελευταία χρόνια.
